Spare at least a day to tour these villages - they are the perfect places if you are in love with the local arts and crafts

    8.00 am - Depart and head to visit Van Phuc village,  a small village once the creators of fine material for the robes of the Royal Court. The local families have specialised in weaving and dying silk over many centuries, and retain some of the ancient secrets that make their distinctive fabrics.
    Take your time to visit a neighbour village - Ha Thai, which has been famous for their lacquerware - Vietnamese unique product

    After lunch at a restaurant in the city centre, you'll cross the Red River to Bat Trang village, 15km east of Hanoi and famous for making fine ceramics. On arrival, you'll be able to stroll in the small alleys of this old village to watch local people producing their fine products and visit some of the houses used as workshops and showrooms. You'll then drive to Dong Ho village (famous for its traditional paintings) and thence to But Thap pagoda.

    Trip ends at around 17.00 pm
